Announcement

29 July 2020

Early this year LPE published on its website an offered price comprising a usage charge and a daily supply charge for the supply of electricity to residential customers.

On 1 July 2020 the ACCC issued LPE with an infringement notice under section 51ACD(1) of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (CCA) for failing to also include:

  • a comparison of its offered price to the reference price, which is the benchmark price set by the government. This represents the percentage an LPE customer is saving,
  • the total amount a customer consuming an average amount of electricity would pay in a year based on the offered price, and
  • the distribution region and type of small customer to which the offer applied.

For the purposes of resolving the matter LPE has paid a penalty of $10,500.

LPE work hard to reduce the amount of complex information concerning the electricity market and strive to display its prices in an easy to understand format that helps people to make an informed decision when selecting an energy retailer.
