Billing Queries

How to read the bill

The bills we send out have a fair bit of important information on them, while most of it is pretty straightforward; there are some things that may need a little more explanation.

For a detailed summary plus helpful tips to manage your energy usage, look below to see each section of your bill at a glance.

What makes up the cost on the bill?

Your bill is made up of several components, including your supply charge, electricity consumption, fees, charges, concessions, and GST.

Unless you provide a self-read, your meter is read—or an estimate is made—at regular intervals by LPE or a third-party meter provider. This information is then used to issue your bill.

If you provide a self-read directly to LPE, we will use this information to ensure your bill is accurate. Your bill is calculated by applying your energy plan to the meter data, which we refer to as your ‘billing data’

On the back of your bill, you will find a detailed breakdown of all charges and any applicable deductions, along with information about your chosen energy plan.

Consumption/Usage Charge – This reflects the amount used at your property during the supply period. Consumption is measured in kilowatt hours (kWh) or litres (L), and the amount you pay per unit depends on your energy plan.

Supply Charge – This is a fixed daily cost for having any utility available at your property. The daily rate is determined by your current plan and is calculated over the number of days between meter readings, known as the supply period.

Other Charges/Adjustments – Depending on your circumstances, you may receive rebates (credits) or incur additional fees and charges. You can find more details about our standard fees on our website.

Meter Charge – This covers the capital recovery costs of the electricity infrastructure at your property, under the contract with the Body Corporate.

What are my account details?

These are the first few numbers you’ll see, located top right of the bill – including your account numberinvoice date and date of issue.

You’ll need these details, especially your account number, to help confirm your identity – whenever you need to contact us or when using some of our online services, including registering for My Account.

How much do I owe?

This will be listed on the front page on the right hand side that will show the Amount owing, the Due Date and any other relevant information such as if your bill is in credit and the late payment fee if the bill is not paid by the due date.

How much energy have I used and where can I find my meter reading details?

Located on the back of the bill, you’ll find your energy supply details, including your supply address, your next scheduled read and your meter number.

On your bill you will see a date range of when the previous read was taken and when the current read was taken.

Your usage summary details the period of which you have been billed for and the amount of units (measured in kWh or L) consumed during this time. If you have solar panels, the amount of units exported will be displayed next to this amount.

On the back of the bill, you’ll find a detailed breakdown of your charges and deductions. This includes your chosen energy plan, the amount of units consumed, your supply charge and any concessions or deductions you may be eligible for.

You’ll find ‘view other bills’ in My Account.  This is a good way to keep an eye on your historical usage over time.

How do I pay my bill?

Located at the bottom of the first page of your bill you’ll find a list of payment options available – including  BPAYby Phone, Online, Deferit or at your local post office.

Take note of your Reference number as you’ll need this to pay your bill online, or via BPAY, where you will also need to state LPE or AP2U biller code on your bill.

Please contact our Customer Support Team on 1300 443 735 to discuss your bill.

We read your meter monthly or quarterly. The number of days between meter reads may vary, as it is not always possible to read your meter on the same dates each month or quarter. This can be due to operational reasons or other factors, including meter access, weekends, and public holidays.

Bills may be estimated for several reasons, including restricted access to the meter, unavailable meter data, or a broken/faulty meter.

If you receive an estimated bill, the meter reader will attempt to take an actual meter reading on the next scheduled reading date. Once an actual reading is obtained, any under- or over-estimated usage will be adjusted on the following invoice to accurately reflect your consumption.

This is because your account is currently in credit. If you wish to make an additional payment, please use a previous bill with a barcode and inform the Post Office of the amount you would like to pay towards your account.
