Concession and Rebates

As a customer, you may qualify for various concessions that we can provide to your Utility account on behalf of the State Government.

For Queensland Residents Only

Eligibility

Rebates are available to people who have any of the below:

  • Queensland Seniors Card
  • Services Australia or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card
  • Services Australia Health Care Card* (Electricity Rebate only)
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs Veteran Gold Card
  • Asylum seeker status—residents will need to provide their ImmiCard details (Electricity Rebate only).

* This includes holders of a Low Income Health Care Card and Ex-Carer Allowance (Child) Health Care Card.

To be eligible, you must be the electricity account holder and also live alone or share your principal place of residence with (only) any of the below:

  • your spouse
  • other people who hold a Services Australia or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card or Queensland Seniors Card
  • other people wholly dependent on you
  • other people who receive an income support or families payment from Services Australia who do not pay rent
  • other people who receive an income support payment from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and who do not pay rent
  • other people who live with the cardholder to provide care and assistance, and who do not pay rent.

If you live in a caravan park or multi-unit residential building (e.g. apartment), you must also show that your electricity or reticulated natural gas is paid based on metered consumption.

For New South Wales Residents Only

You may be eligible if you live in NSW and hold one of the following:

  • Pensioner Concession Card issued by Services Australia or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA)
  • Health Care Card issued by Services Australia
  • Low Income Health Care Card issued by Services Australia
  • DVA Veteran Gold Card.

To be eligible, you must be the electricity account holder and also live alone or share your principal place of residence with (only) any of the below:

  • your spouse
  • other people who hold a Services Australia or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card 
  • other people wholly dependent on you
  • other people who receive an income support or families payment from Services Australia who do not pay rent
  • other people who receive an income support payment from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and who do not pay rent
  • other people who live with the cardholder to provide care and assistance, and who do not pay rent.

The Medical Cooling and Heating Electricity Concession Scheme assists with electricity costs for individuals with chronic medical conditions—such as multiple sclerosis, autonomic system dysfunction, significant burns, or severe inflammatory skin conditions—that are aggravated by temperature changes.

The Queensland Government Electricity Life Support Concession assists eligible individuals who are seriously ill and use a home-based oxygen concentrator or kidney dialysis machine.

This concession helps cover the electricity costs associated with running these essential medical devices.

If you hold a Queensland Seniors Card, you are eligible for a concession rebate.

*Note that a Queensland Seniors Business Card is not eligible.

For Queensland – the concession rebate is $0.9623 (ex-GST) per day, totaling $351.24 (ex-GST) per year. This is based on ALL concession types

For New South Wales – the concession rebate is $0.7808 (ex-GST) per day, totaling $284.99 (ex-GST) per year. This is based on the Low Income Household Rebate

*Note that rebates are paid on a pro-rata basis. Meaning each bill and the number of days of the billing period will determine for that bill how much of the rebate amount is allocated to that bill.
